SUGAR COOKIES


1 cups sugar              
1/2 cup shortening or butter
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla   
3½ cups flour  (or soft white wheat flour) of 4½ cups of wonder flour on page 48
1 teaspoon soda
2 teaspoon baking powder (Prefer baking powder with our aluminum, Rumford is one)
1 cup milk
½ teaspoon salt

      
Cream butter, sugar and vanilla together in Bosch bowl with cookie paddles.  Add egg and beat. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk.  Roll out to ½ inch thick, using plenty of flour because dough is quite sticky.    Cut with cookie cutters place on cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 8 minutes then frost with your favorite frosting. Do not over bake cookies.  They should still be soft to the touch. It makes about 22 cookies, you can double this recipe
